SAS to offset the flight carbon footprint of EuroBonus members

Starting February 1, SAS will automatically offset the carbon emissions for every flight booked with a EuroBonus membership number.

This bold sustainability measure is a cornerstone of SAS’s ongoing climate action strategy, which also encompasses continual fleet renewal with next-generation fuel-efficient aircraft and a growing commitment to sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

With this program, SAS will now offset approximately 40 percent of its passenger-related carbon emissions—a figure encompassing all EuroBonus member flights, youth fares, and the airline’s corporate travel. SAS has previously taken the lead in offsetting youth tickets and internal business travel, underscoring its role as a sustainability leader among European carriers.

“Our most dedicated travelers seek responsible choices, and we are committed to offering them a more climate-conscious journey,” said Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of SAS. “Whether flying within Scandinavia or internationally, our EuroBonus members can be confident that SAS is actively working to reduce our environmental footprint every day.”

The airline’s offset contributions are calculated using data provided by Natural Capital Partners, a globally recognized authority in environmental solutions. This ensures that SAS’s carbon offsets support credible, high-impact projects worldwide, from renewable energy to reforestation initiatives.

“Carbon offsetting is just one pillar of our broader sustainability agenda,” added Lars Andersen Resare, Head of Sustainability at SAS. “We have maximized emission reductions with current technology, and offsetting allows us to bridge the gap until aviation achieves zero-emission flight.”

In 2025, SAS is also expanding options for travelers to purchase upgrades to flights powered by sustainable aviation fuel at the time of booking, further empowering customers to make eco-friendly choices. The airline remains steadfast in its commitment to cut total carbon emissions by 25 percent by 2030, with the goal of covering all domestic Scandinavian flights with SAF-equivalent fuel volumes.
