SAS Scandinavian Airlines has inaugurated its highly anticipated nonstop route from Stockholm to Los Angeles, marking a significant expansion in its North American network and reaffirming its commitment to transatlantic excellence.
Following this launch, SAS has continued to bolster its US presence with additional direct flights from Copenhagen to Boston and from both Copenhagen and Oslo to Miami, catering to the growing demand for premium travel between Scandinavia and the United States.
SAS has a storied legacy in California, having pioneered polar routes in 1954 with its original Los Angeles service—a move that revolutionized transpolar aviation. The reinstatement of this historic connection brings together two global hubs of innovation and creativity.
"Reviving our iconic Stockholm–Los Angeles service with daily flights is a proud moment for SAS, uniting the vibrant cultures and economies of Scandinavia and Southern California," shared Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of SAS.
"Our updated Business Class continues to set the benchmark for transatlantic travel, with guests praising the fully flat seats, immersive entertainment, high-speed WiFi, and contemporary Scandinavian design. Our renewed service philosophy has garnered outstanding feedback, reflected in SAS being awarded 'Best Intercontinental Airline' at the prestigious travel industry awards in 2025," Gustafson added.
Currently, SAS operates direct long-haul flights from Scandinavia to major destinations including New York, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. The addition of Boston, Miami, and now Los Angeles further strengthens SAS’s position as a leader in premium transatlantic travel.
