Sheremetyevo International Airport, Moscow’s flagship aviation hub, played a central role welcoming global visitors for the FIFA World Cup, unveiling a spectacular display of the iconic trophy to mark the occasion.
Anticipating an influx of football fans and athletes, the airport orchestrated seamless arrivals for more than 200 flights dedicated to the event. To meet this surge, Sheremetyevo underwent a sweeping transformation, introducing state-of-the-art infrastructure and guest amenities tailored for luxury and efficiency.
One of the highlights was the grand opening of Terminal B—a purpose-built facility designed to handle high passenger volumes with ease and sophistication. In line with Moscow’s commitment to premium hospitality, two exceptional business lounges debuted: the Kandinsky Business Lounge in Terminal B and the Aeroflot Moscow Lounge in Terminal D, both envisioned by renowned firm JPA Design.
These exclusive spaces cater to business class passengers and elite frequent flyer members, offering refined interiors, curated dining, and tranquil zones for relaxation ahead of departure.
Sheremetyevo further enhanced inter-terminal connectivity with the launch of an innovative underground automated people mover system, streamlining transfers between terminals for a seamless passenger experience.
The airport’s ambitious modernization program expanded annual capacity by 20 million, enabling Sheremetyevo to serve up to 46 million guests each year. Looking ahead, the ongoing development of Terminal C positions the airport to welcome 80 million travelers by 2026, reinforcing its status as Eastern Europe’s busiest and most advanced air gateway.
