Singapore Airlines To Launch Longest Passenger Flight In The World

Singapore Airlines has elevated the standard for ultra-long-haul travel, operating the world’s longest nonstop commercial flight between Singapore and New York, a route that has become an icon in global aviation.

Since October 2018, the airline’s state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900ULR has been connecting Changi Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, covering an extraordinary distance of 9,000 nautical miles (16,700 km) in a single journey. This flagship route, now running daily, has set the benchmark for nonstop air travel, overtaking Qatar Airways’ Doha-Auckland service in both distance and duration.

Singapore Airlines was the launch customer for the A350-900ULR, securing a fleet of seven aircraft tailored for ultra-long-range missions. The aircraft’s advanced engineering and fuel efficiency have enabled the airline to deliver this unparalleled nonstop experience for discerning travelers.

The A350-900ULR is configured exclusively for comfort, offering 67 Business Class suites and 94 Premium Economy seats, ensuring both privacy and space for every passenger over the nearly 19-hour journey.

The flight’s duration—up to 18 hours and 45 minutes—remains the longest scheduled passenger service in the world, a remarkable feat that exemplifies Singapore Airlines’ commitment to innovation and passenger well-being.

This route marks Singapore Airlines’ triumphant return to the Singapore-Newark sector, which the airline previously operated until 2013 with the now-retired Airbus A340-500. The new generation A350-900ULR introduces a host of wellness-focused features, including increased ceiling height, expansive windows, a wider cabin, and customizable lighting to help minimize jetlag.

Its carbon composite structure allows for optimal cabin pressure and humidity, contributing to superior air quality and passenger comfort throughout the long-haul journey.

With all seven A350-900ULR aircraft now in service, Singapore Airlines continues to expand its ultra-long-haul offerings, including nonstop flights to key US gateways such as Los Angeles. The carrier’s ongoing investments in cabin innovation and route development reinforce its leadership in premium long-haul travel.
