Singapore Airlines has once again raised the bar in premium air travel, inaugurating the world’s longest direct commercial route: Singapore to New York. This ultra-long-haul flight is a testament to the airline’s pioneering spirit and commitment to delivering unparalleled comfort for discerning travelers.
The inaugural non-stop journey between Changi International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport took flight on 11 October 2018, departing Singapore at 23:37 local time and touching down in New York at 05:29 Eastern Time the next day. Covering nearly 18 hours in the air, this service remains the benchmark for endurance and luxury in 2025.
Operated by the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range), Singapore Airlines initially offered three weekly flights on this prestigious route, with departures every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. Following the delivery of additional aircraft, daily frequencies were introduced, providing seamless connectivity between Southeast Asia and the United States.
For the historic maiden voyage, guests departing Singapore enjoyed an exclusive pre-flight celebration at the gate, featuring live entertainment and a curated selection of gourmet canapés and refreshments. Travelers received a bespoke amenity kit, including a commemorative certificate and a pair of elegantly branded Bodum glasses to mark the occasion.
Passengers on board this groundbreaking flight were treated to a holistic wellness experience, highlighted by specially crafted Wellness Cuisines developed in collaboration with Canyon Ranch, a global leader in integrative health. In addition to Singapore Airlines’ signature menus and the creations of its renowned International Culinary Panel, this partnership ensured a harmonious balance of nutrition and flavor for ultra-long-haul comfort.
With passenger well-being at the forefront, the A350-900ULR offers advanced sleep optimization features, including tailored cabin lighting and scientifically designed rest schedules. The aircraft’s expansive cabin, higher ceilings, and panoramic windows contribute to reduced jet lag, ensuring guests arrive refreshed and revitalized.
Singapore Airlines continues to innovate in the in-flight entertainment space with myKrisWorld—a groundbreaking personalization platform. This system anticipates individual preferences, offering tailored content recommendations. KrisFlyer members benefit from the ability to save and resume entertainment selections, create bespoke playlists, and seamlessly carry their preferences across future journeys.
“We are delighted to introduce the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight, made possible by the remarkable A350-900ULR. This route underscores our dedication to enhancing global connectivity and delivering an exceptional onboard experience,” shared Singapore Airlines CEO, Mr. Goh Choon Phong.
As the launch customer for the Airbus A350-900ULR, Singapore Airlines has committed to seven of these next-generation aircraft, configured in an exclusive two-class layout—67 Business Class suites and 94 Premium Economy seats—ensuring an elite travel experience for every guest.
Beyond the Singapore–New York route, the A350-900ULR fleet now serves direct flights to Los Angeles and has augmented the airline’s non-stop services to San Francisco. By 2025, Singapore Airlines operates over 30 weekly non-stop flights between Singapore and major U.S. cities, further cementing its position as a leader in transpacific travel.
