Take-off for the world’s largest Oktoberfest

As Munich welcomes another vibrant Oktoberfest season, Lufthansa introduces an exclusive airborne celebration with its Trachten-clad crew aboard the iconic Airbus A380—now the world's largest team in traditional attire to ever take flight.

This year, 21 Lufthansa flight attendants are swapping their classic uniforms for authentic Bavarian costumes. The first special 'Trachten' flight departs Munich for Beijing, followed by a transatlantic journey to Los Angeles in early October. Select European routes will also feature cabin crews dressed in festive dirndls and lederhosen, infusing every journey with the spirit of Oktoberfest.

Showcasing Munich's heritage, the traditional ensembles are expertly crafted by Angermaier, a renowned atelier specializing in Bavarian fashion. Female crew members don elegant navy dirndls paired with silver-grey aprons, while their male colleagues sport tailored lederhosen and matching vests, echoing the dirndl's refined fabrics. This beloved tradition continues on Lufthansa CityLine flights throughout September and October, with destinations including Amsterdam, Lyon, Gdansk, Milan, Sofia, Brussels, Ancona, Belgrade, Warsaw, Cologne, and Münster.

Passengers arriving at Munich Airport’s Terminal 2 are greeted by Lufthansa ground staff in festive attire, a signature touch that blends modern hospitality with Bavarian charm. Female agents may opt for dirndls, while male staff wear classic Trachten suits, adding a warm, local welcome for travelers during Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest Festivities in Lufthansa Lounges

Lufthansa’s premium lounges at Munich Airport deliver an authentic Oktoberfest experience for discerning travelers. Across the twelve lounges in Terminal 2 and its satellite, guests enjoy an impressive culinary spread: over 4,000 kg of Leberkäs’, 38,000+ fresh pretzels, and 750 kg of traditional Weißwurst sausages. The First Class lounge features a curated menu—beginning with Festtagssuppe, followed by rustic farmer’s duck, and culminating in house-made apple strudel with vanilla sauce, roasted almonds, and spiced rum raisins. In the Senator and Business lounges, regional classics such as Leberkäs’, Fleischpflanzerl meatballs, and quark mousse with stewed plums are served, ensuring every visitor enjoys a taste of Bavaria’s legendary hospitality.
