The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok completes extensive renovations

The legendary Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok has completed an extensive restoration of its iconic Authors’ and Garden Wings, reaffirming its position as Thailand’s premier luxury hotel.

This top-to-bottom renewal project was meticulously curated to elevate both the guest experience and the property’s signature heritage ambiance. As part of the transformation, guest accommodations have been thoughtfully redesigned, and the historic Authors’ Wing now features the opulent Grand Royal Suite, while the Garden Wing introduces twelve new suites with private balconies.

Grand Royal Suite Living Area

The prestigious six-bedroom Grand Royal Suite, spanning a remarkable 600 square meters, commands the entire first floor of the Authors’ Wing—the original site of the Oriental Hotel, dating back to 1876. This suite is now recognized as one of Bangkok’s most exclusive presidential accommodations, setting a new benchmark for luxury in the city.

Guests enjoy discreet private lift entry and the suite integrates the one-bedroom Royal Suite (315 sqm), the adjacent two-bedroom Ambassador Suite (165 sqm), plus three additional guest bedrooms.

Designed for high-profile entertaining and private gatherings, the residence includes an elegant main lounge, a secondary living room, a library-style study, and a sophisticated dining room with a chef’s kitchen and service pantry. The Victorian-inspired glass conservatory offers a refined setting for intimate meals or afternoon tea, while the meticulously restored open balcony commands picturesque views over the lush hotel gardens.

Garden Suite Bedroom

The newly unveiled 80-square-meter Garden Suites feature expansive floor-to-ceiling windows with immersive garden vistas. Each suite comprises a gracious lounge, a dedicated dining area, a pantry, guest powder room, and a private balcony. The bedroom is complemented by a marble-clad bathroom, complete with a deep soaking tub, rain shower, dual vanities, and a spacious walk-in wardrobe.

Le Normandie Restaurant

Le Normandie, the hotel’s acclaimed French culinary destination and recipient of two Michelin stars, has been elegantly refreshed. The dining room now shines with bespoke crystal chandeliers, a state-of-the-art wine cellar, and a handcrafted dessert trolley—blending timeless charm with contemporary sophistication.

Authors’ Lounge

The beloved Authors’ Lounge, renowned for its afternoon tea and literary legacy, has been meticulously restored to its 19th-century grandeur and thoughtfully expanded to welcome more guests in style.

“We are proud to celebrate the remarkable transformation of our Authors’ and Garden Wings as we mark over 140 years of legendary service,” shared Amanda Hyndman, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok. “These enhancements reinforce our commitment to exceptional hospitality, ensuring that guests continue to experience the unique riverside sanctuary and storied heritage that define our hotel.”
