Unique Luxury Hotel Has Low-Key Opening In London

This week, The Mandrake quietly debuted as London's most charismatic new boutique hotel, redefining luxury hospitality in the heart of Fitzrovia. Discreetly tucked away on Newman Street, mere steps from Oxford Street, this exclusive retreat brings an imaginative and avant-garde spirit to the capital’s hotel scene.

Positioned within the refined Fitzrovia district—conveniently close to Soho’s vibrant nightlife and the green expanse of Regent’s Park—The Mandrake distinguishes itself with a lush, open-air courtyard, vertical gardens dripping with greenery, and curated interiors that blend surreal artistry with world-class comfort.

Inspired by the enigmatic mandrake plant, the property is the brainchild of Beirut-born entrepreneur Rami Fustok, marking his bold entry into the luxury hotel arena. The Mandrake’s 34 rooms showcase his vision for intimate, unconventional hospitality.

Throughout the hotel, guests encounter an eclectic collection of contemporary artworks by celebrated creators such as Francesco Clemente, Jonas Burgert, and Peter-John de Villiers, transforming each corridor into a private gallery.

Signature sound installations by renowned French engineer Pierre-Arnaud Alunn, bespoke fragrances crafted by Azzi Glasser, and the mesmerizing glow of Lara Bohinc’s 30-candle chandelier combine to create an atmosphere that is both immersive and otherworldly.

Approximately one-fifth of the property is dedicated to verdant terraces and botanical spaces, including a glasshouse on the first floor flourishing with rare medicinal plants—an oasis that sets The Mandrake apart in London’s luxury landscape.

The hotel’s culinary offering comes courtesy of Charles Pelletier and Fred Peneau, the acclaimed duo behind the Michelin-starred Serge et le Phoque. Their London outpost presents innovative French cuisine in an 80-seat dining room, complemented by an intimate 16-person private dining space for exclusive gatherings.

At Waeska Bar & Lounge, guests can indulge in inventive plant-inspired cocktails and a thoughtfully curated wine selection, all within a setting that celebrates both artistry and mixology.

Among the 34 guest accommodations are three lavish suites and a striking penthouse, each arranged across four levels that rise above the hotel’s dramatic courtyard. Hanging gardens of jasmine and passion flower infuse the air with fragrance, creating a tranquil retreat from the city outside.

According to owner Rami Fustok, The Mandrake remains proudly independent, ensuring a personalized approach that resists the impersonal feel of larger chains.

Fustok shares, “We aim to provide our guests with experiences that are deeply personal and authentic—never formulaic or generic.”

As travel editors who have explored London’s top luxury offerings, we are eager to immerse ourselves in The Mandrake’s singular charm. Will you be among the first to discover this extraordinary address?
