Living the Venetian Dream: Palazzo Rental Realities
For years, the fantasy of residing in a Venetian palazzo seemed reserved for royalty or movie stars. Yet, with more flexible rental options—especially during quieter months—we finally seized the opportunity to make that dream a reality.
The experience exceeded every expectation.
After thoroughly exploring available private palazzi, Imperiale Piano Nobile immediately stood out, thanks to its enviable location mere steps from The Gritti Palace. This address puts you at the heart of Venice, within easy reach of St Mark’s Square and boasting sun-drenched balconies with glimpses of gondolas gliding along the Grand Canal.
Our typical visits to Venice last two nights, but for this special stay, we committed to at least three, determined to truly immerse ourselves in the palazzo lifestyle.
Upon stepping inside, the sheer grandeur was breathtaking: soaring ceilings, ornate fixtures, period furnishings, and dazzling chandeliers. Even after experiencing the finest suites across Venice and Europe, the palazzo’s ambiance set a new standard for authenticity and scale.

Historic Grandeur Meets Modern Comfort
Venice’s grandest residences are steeped in centuries of history, and Imperiale Piano Nobile is no exception. Housed within the former 17th-century Palazzo Grimani, once home to renowned psychoanalyst Cesare Musatti, the property is a testament to Italian artistry and intellectual heritage.
Inside, however, the atmosphere is pure serenity.
Musatti’s fascination with the interplay between space and emotion is evident throughout, with each room curated to evoke a sense of harmony and creative inspiration reminiscent of an operatic stage.
During our stay, the harmonious palette of muted hues, exquisite detailing, and abundant original artwork created an environment that felt both restorative and inspiring—like living within a masterpiece.
The principal suite features an opulent four-poster bed beneath a hand-painted ceiling, while the interconnected salons and stately dining room serve as the palazzo’s social heart, ideal for intimate gatherings and memorable celebrations.

Private Gourmet Dining: A Michelin-Level Experience
The palazzo’s dining room is, without exaggeration, among the most enchanting spaces we have ever encountered—and, for three nights, it was ours alone. Determined to savor every moment, we enlisted private chefs to create a bespoke culinary journey. One specialized in the region’s exceptional seafood, while the other crafted exquisite meat courses. Both came highly recommended by local gastronomes.
Each evening, we indulged in a tailored four-course Venetian menu, reimagining classic dishes with a contemporary twist, all within our own historic sanctuary. The overall experience rivaled even the city’s most celebrated eateries, such as
and
. Yet, the intimate ambiance and sense of occasion made these meals uniquely unforgettable.
Surrounded by glimmering Murano chandeliers and gilded mirrors, we dined beneath intricate stucco work depicting musical instruments—a nod to the palazzo’s original use as a music salon.

A Palace Filled with Song: Bespoke Musical Evenings
The palazzo’s musical heritage inspired us to transform the adjoining salon into a private concert hall. Anchored by an elegant period Steinway grand piano, the room became the stage for an unforgettable series of performances.
On our first night, we welcomed Venetian vocalist Sara Bardino and her ensemble—a pianist and a violinist—whose dynamic repertoire set the tone for an enchanting evening.
The highlight, however, came on our final night, when acclaimed opera duo Sara Pretegiani and Giovanni Battista Palmieri (Sara and Gio), who have graced stages for audiences of 40,000, performed a selection of operatic masterpieces exclusively for us. The intimacy and artistry of their performance left a profound impression, creating memories that will remain with us for years to come.
