Premium business class seats evolve rapidly, yet few products stand the test of time as elegantly as Singapore Airlines’ A380 Business Class.
Our recent journey from New York to Frankfurt on the iconic Airbus A380 reaffirmed that, even as newer cabins debut, Singapore’s business class remains a benchmark for enduring comfort and design.
While the airline’s SpaceBed era marked a leap forward in its day, today’s business class seats offer a refined sense of privacy, intuitive controls, and thoughtful amenities. Despite updates and newer generations, the A380’s business class continues to deliver a travel experience that feels relevant and sophisticated in 2025.

A Distinctive Cabin That Still Impresses
Even though Singapore Airlines’ A380 business class was first introduced nearly two decades ago, it retains a strong presence in today’s premium cabin landscape. The seat’s exceptional width and generous personal space convert into a fully lie-flat bed, rivaling—if not surpassing—many current competitors. While not the latest generation, this seat continues to attract discerning travelers who value comfort, space, and reliability, separate from the airline’s celebrated onboard service.
Farewell to the A380 Era: Industry Shifts and New Aircraft
The aviation landscape has evolved dramatically, with the Airbus A380’s production having ceased in 2021. The final superjumbo rolled out of Toulouse, closing a chapter in aviation history. Airlines, including Singapore, are now focusing on next-generation, fuel-efficient twinjets like the Airbus A350-900ULR and Boeing 787-10 to serve ultra-long-haul routes. Our experience on Singapore’s non-stop service between Singapore and New York—one of the world’s longest flights—showcased how these modern aircraft deliver extended range and enhanced passenger comfort, reflecting a shift toward operational efficiency and sustainability in premium travel.
Technological advancements continue to redefine luxury air travel, with new cabins prioritizing passenger well-being, privacy, and environmental responsibility, while maintaining the highest standards of comfort.
Seamless Airport Experience at JFK
During our review of Singapore Airlines’ transatlantic business class, we departed from JFK’s Terminal 4 at 20:15. Leaving Manhattan well ahead of rush hour, we enjoyed the tranquil ambiance of the Swiss lounge, which remains a preferred pre-flight retreat for business travelers. Despite bustling evening crowds and lengthy security lines, the process was surprisingly efficient. TSA’s streamlined procedures allowed us to keep shoes and belts on, and our electronics remained in our bags. The entire screening took only minutes, a testament to the improvements in airport handling for premium passengers.
Selecting the Perfect Seat: 96A and the "Chill Zone"
Boarding commenced about 40 minutes before departure, and thanks to a well-organized dual-jet bridge system at JFK, we accessed the upper deck directly, quickly settling into seat 96A. This bulkhead window seat, often dubbed the "ice box" for its cooler microclimate, is a hidden gem for travelers who favor a crisp sleeping environment. The proximity to the emergency exit provides added space and privacy, though it’s worth noting that a lavatory is situated just behind. On this lightly loaded flight, however, it caused no disturbance.
Singapore Airlines’ bulkhead seats on the A380 are renowned for their expansive legroom and unobstructed sleeping space. With only a handful of passengers in the forward cabin, the crew offered to dim the lights entirely, creating a tranquil and cocooned atmosphere. Subtle emergency exit lighting and gentle illumination from the front galley contributed to the sense of exclusivity and serenity.
Gourmet Dining Above the Clouds: Beef Fillet to Remember
On this overnight journey, rest and culinary indulgence went hand in hand. After a refined multi-course dinner—starting with a delicate appetizer and culminating in a perfectly grilled U.S. Prime Beef Fillet—we prioritized sleep, requesting not to be disturbed. Thanks to Singapore Airlines’ renowned Book the Cook program, we pre-selected our meal, which arrived impeccably presented and cooked to perfection. The steak was easily among the most flavorful we’ve tasted in the sky.

Exceptional Space and Quiet: The A380’s Enduring Appeal
Singapore Airlines’ A380 business class seats are not only fully flat but also among the broadest in the industry, with just four seats per row on the upper deck. This generous configuration ensures ample personal space and comfort, whether you’re traveling solo or with a companion—a stark contrast to the denser layouts found on the main deck.
The A380 remains a favorite for its remarkably smooth and quiet ride, minimizing both engine noise and turbulence. On our lightly loaded flight, the cabin was hushed, making it easy to drift into restful sleep. Although A380 production has ended, these aircraft continue to operate select long-haul routes, allowing travelers to savor their legendary comfort for years to come. The superjumbo’s legacy endures as a symbol of refined air travel and spacious luxury in the sky.
