Oman Air Business Studio Review

Established in 1993, Oman Air has grown from a regional carrier into Oman’s main international airline. Its premium-cabin reputation has been shaped by a smaller network, a more controlled onboard style, and repeated recognition in first-class categories, including the World Travel Awards’ “Middle East’s Leading Airline – First Class 2024.”

Oman Air Business Studio is unusual because it is between traditional business class and the first-class product the airline previously sold. In September 2024, Oman Air retired first class as a separate cabin and rebranded those suites as Business Studio, a higher-tier product within business class.

This distinction is important because many older reviews still refer to this cabin as Oman Air's first class. The seat, privacy structure, and eight-suite layout are central to the experience, but the product is now sold and positioned as a more premium business-class option. This review looks at Oman Air Business Studio in its current form, with attention to the cabin, lounge access, dining, service, and other key details.

Muscat International Airport (MCT) is Oman Air’s main hub and the primary airport for the Oman Air Business Studio ground experience. The airport is located in Seeb, about 20 miles (32 km) from central Muscat, so most long-haul Oman Air itineraries either begin there or connect through it.

The journey from the airport starts with a separate premium check-in process. Oman Air operates a First and Business Class check-in counter at Muscat International Airport (MCT), and the airport identifies it as counter A1. Eligible Business Studio and business-class passengers use this counter before continuing through the terminal.

Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure. Passengers with checked baggage still need to visit the airport counter before security, so the dedicated premium check-in area is relevant.

After check-in, priority handling and lounge access reduce the amount of time spent waiting in the terminal and give passengers a place to prepare before boarding. This is most important before a long-haul business-class flight, where eating, showering, or resting before departure can make the long flight easier to manage.

At Muscat International Airport (MCT), Business Studio passengers use Oman Air’s Business Studio & Business Class Lounge. The lounge is on the fifth floor after customs and immigration, making it the main pre-boarding space for eligible premium-cabin passengers. The lounge serves Business Studio passengers, regular business-class passengers, and eligible frequent flyer members.

The space has a warm, polished look with large windows, beige seats, dark wood details, and gold accents. Omani design cues appear in the patterned screens and architectural shapes, but the lounge still feels practical instead of decorative. Seats are arranged in separate zones, so passengers can choose a brighter area near the windows, a quieter corner for rest, or a more functional space for dining or work before boarding.

The lounge includes several facilities and features that are useful before a long-haul departure:

• Dining areas with hot and cold food
• A staffed bar
• Workstations
• Shower facilities
• Relaxation areas
• Private nap rooms
• Family facilities and a children’s room
• Wi-Fi

Outside Muscat, the airport experience depends more on the departure city. Oman Air operates its own lounge at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), to which eligible Business Studio, business-class, and frequent-flyer passengers have access.

At other airports, Oman Air uses partner lounges or third-party premium facilities. Access depends on the airport, ticket type, partner lounge agreement, and frequent-flyer status. Since Oman Air joined Oneworld on June 30, 2025, eligible passengers also receive access to partner airlines' lounges.

Because of this variation, Muscat International Airport (MCT) is the most complete airport setting for Oman Air Business Studio. It is where Oman Air controls the key parts of the ground experience: premium check-in, lounge access, and the pre-boarding process.

Oman Air Business Studio is available on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner three-class aircraft. Business Studio uses the former first-class suite at the front of the aircraft. On other aircraft, passengers may find the airline’s standard business class instead, which does not offer the same enclosed suite design.

The Business Studio cabin uses a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access from every suite. It has eight suites in two rows, which makes it much smaller than most long-haul business-class cabins. The small cabin size defines the feel of the flight: there is less foot traffic near each seat, fewer passengers sharing the same cabin zone, and a quieter setting than in a larger business-class cabin.

The 1-2-1 layout gives every passenger direct aisle access and a clearly separated personal space. Window suites are the better option for solo travelers because they are away from the center aisle. Center suites are better suited to two passengers traveling together, especially since the divider between them can be adjusted.

The seat is the main reason Oman Air Business Studio stands apart from standard business class. It is 25.5 inches (65 cm) wide, with an 85.5-inch (217 cm) pitch and an 82-inch (208 cm) fully flat bed length when used with the ottoman. These dimensions create more personal space than most conventional business-class seats.

The seat reclines to 180 degrees, creating a fully flat bed. The ottoman extends the sleeping surface, while the wide seat gives passengers generous room for their shoulders and arms.

The seat also includes several electric controls, including backrest, seat bottom, legrest, and seat-depth adjustment. An eight-point massage system adds another layer of comfort, but the more important benefit is the range of seat positions. Passengers can adjust the seat for dining, lounging, work, or sleep without relying on two preset positions.

Business Studio suites have a more enclosed structure than standard business-class seats. Each suite has sliding doors, higher sidewalls, and a defined personal area, all of which reduce exposure to aisle movement during the flight.

Storage is also a strength of the suite. Each seat includes dedicated coat-hanging space, a cabin-baggage stowage area, a literature pocket, a headset compartment, and smaller enclosed spaces for personal items. These details matter on long-haul flights because passengers do not need to keep reaching into the overhead bins for items during the flight.

The suite also includes a folding armrest, a one-piece meal table, and a separate cocktail table. This setup makes the space easier to use during meal service or work, because drinks, devices, and dining items do not all need to share the same surface.

A buddy seat is built into the ottoman area, which allows another passenger to sit opposite during dining. This does not turn the suite into a shared cabin, but it does make face-to-face dining possible, especially for passengers seated in nearby suites.

Because Business Studio is limited to a specific aircraft, travelers should check the following details before booking:

• The aircraft should be the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner three-class version.
• The fare or cabin should show Business Studio, not only standard business class.
• The seat map should show the small eight-suite 1-2-1 cabin.

When those details line up, travelers get a cabin with more privacy, more personal space, and a more flexible seat setup than in standard business class.

Oman Air Business Studio uses a flexible à la carte dining format on long-haul flights, with Omani, Middle Eastern, and international dishes on the menu. The main strength is not one signature course, but the way the service works: passengers can choose what they want to eat and when they want it served.

The meal is structured as a multi-course service. A full meal sequence can include:

• Amuse-bouche, such as tuna and bell pepper empanadilla
• Appetizer, such as seared crusted tuna
• Soup, like herb-roasted bell pepper and potato soup
• Salad, usually a seasonal one
• Arabic mezze, including hummus, stuffed vine leaves, babaghanoush, chicken kibbeh, and prawn shish tawook
• Main course, with options such as baked cod sayadia, stuffed chicken breast with spinach and pine nuts in saffron cream sauce, grilled fillet of beef with thyme jus, or paneer jalfrezi with dal tadka, bhindi masala, rolled papadum, and tempered dill rice
• Cheese or fruit, such as a cheese plate or seasonal fruit with raspberry coulis
• Dessert, with options such as apricot and lemon tart or green tea and vanilla ice cream
• Warm bakery items served alongside or between courses, depending on the meal

This format gives the service two different rhythms. Passengers who want a full meal can move through the courses gradually. Passengers who want to sleep can choose fewer dishes and keep the service shorter.

The Business Studio suite has enough table space for a paced, plated meal. The one-piece meal table holds the main course setup, while the cocktail table keeps drinks, bread, or smaller items separate from the main dining surface.

The ottoman can also work as a buddy seat when the crew permits it. This allows two passengers to dine face-to-face, which is convenient for couples or companions seated nearby.

Oman Air states that all meals served onboard are halal, so passengers do not need to request a separate Muslim meal. The airline also lists special meal options for dietary, medical, religious, and children’s needs, although availability can depend on route.

Travelers should request special meals in advance through the booking or airline service channels.

The beverage service in Oman Air Business Studio begins before takeoff. Cabin crew commonly serve Omani coffee, known as Kahwa, with dates. This gives the opening service a clear Omani identity before the main dining service begins.

Passengers can also choose a welcome drink before departure. Depending on the route and catering cycle, this may include Champagne, juice, water, or another chilled drink. This first drink works as a separate part of the service, so passengers do not need to begin the full meal immediately after boarding.

Oman Air Business Studio includes a full beverage list that supports its à la carte dining format. The selection usually includes Champagne, wine, spirits, cocktails, mocktails, tea, juices, water, soft drinks, and coffee options such as Illy espresso and brewed coffee.

Champagne selections can include labels such as Charles Heidsieck Rosé and Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut, while the wine list typically covers red, white, and rosé options. Spirits and cocktails are also available during the flight, giving passengers more flexibility in how they pair drinks with meals. Omani coffee and dates mark the start of the meal service; Champagne or wine can accompany the main course, and passengers can order tea, coffee, juice, water, or soft drinks later in the flight.

Oman Air Business Studio service is one of the more important parts of the experience because the cabin has only eight suites. With fewer passengers to manage, the crew can pay closer attention to timing, requests, and the overall flow of the flight.

The cabin crew usually starts with a formal service style. The crew helps passengers settle into their suites and explains seat features when needed. Once the flight is underway, the interaction becomes more relaxed, while still keeping the polished rhythm expected in a long-haul premium cabin.

Oman Air’s cabin crew uniforms also support the airline’s Omani identity. The refreshed 2019 design uses turquoise inspired by the Sea of Oman, giving the cabin presentation a recognizable visual style.

Oman Air Business Studio uses the ARIA in-flight entertainment system on a 23-inch personal screen. The screen size fits the suite well because passengers sit farther from the monitor than they would in a smaller seat, especially when the seat is reclined or in bed mode.

The system includes movies, TV programs, music, games, and an interactive moving map. Passengers can control the screen using an in-flight entertainment handset, which makes the system easier to use without leaning forward.

The suite also includes the main connection points needed for work and personal devices:

• Ethernet plug
• RCA audio and video plug
• PC power outlet
• Headset compartment

Passengers receive noise-canceling headphones in the Business Studio class, although audio quality can vary by headset and aircraft condition.

Business Studio guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi for 3 hours, with a 40 MB data allowance. It is suitable for messaging and light browsing, but doesn’t fully support streaming, large file transfers, or video calls.

Each Business Studio passenger receives soft quilted bedding, a silk-trimmed pillow, a pure cotton sleeper suit, and slippers. These items make the suite easier to use as a proper rest space, especially on overnight flights where the seat is expected to function as a lie-flat bed.

Business Studio passengers receive a bespoke Amouage amenity kit. Amouage is an Omani fragrance house, so the kit also reinforces the airline’s local identity.

The kit includes in-flight items such as:

• Silk eyeshades
• Socks
• Earplugs
• Hairbrush
• Amouage essentials

Oman Air also offers different kit versions. Ladies’ kits include a vanity set, while men’s kits include a shaving set.

Oman Air Business Studio does not operate across Oman Air’s short- and medium-haul network. On these routes, business class is the most luxurious cabin available, but the seat can vary by aircraft.

This distinction is important because the product name alone does not reflect the onboard experience. A short- or medium-haul business-class flight may use a narrow-body Boeing 737 aircraft instead of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner three-class aircraft that carries Business Studio.

Oman Air uses Boeing 737 aircraft on many regional and medium-haul routes. The business-class cabin depends on the aircraft version.

On the Boeing 737-8 MAX model, Oman Air lists a 46-inch-pitch (117 cm) seat with a sliding recline feature and fixed in-flight entertainment screens. This is a more regional-style setup and should not be confused with the enclosed Business Studio suite.

On some Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 aircraft, Oman Air features a 77.5-inch (197 cm) lie-flat business-class seat with 82-inch (208 cm) pitch and 22-inch (56 cm) width. These aircraft can offer a more comfortable seat than many narrow-body regional cabins, but they still do not provide the same enclosed suite, sliding doors, or eight-seat cabin structure as the Business Studio.

Oman Air’s sustainability work is mainly tied to fleet efficiency. The airline has been updating its fleet with newer aircraft, including Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Boeing 737-8 MAX planes, to improve operating efficiency and reduce fuel consumption compared with older aircraft.

Oman is also developing broader aviation sustainability plans, including sustainable aviation fuel initiatives and national net-zero goals. These efforts are at the country and industry level instead of inside the onboard Business Studio experience.

The Oman Air premium experience depends heavily on aircraft assignment, because the Business Studio product is only available on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner three-class aircraft.

The enclosed suite is the main reason to choose Business Studio, with eight seats in a 1-2-1 layout, sliding doors, wide personal space, and a fully flat bed setup that reflects its former first-class design.

Because the cabin has only eight suites, it can feel quieter and more private, with on-demand meals and attentive service adding to the sense of comfort.

Business Studio is a narrow, aircraft-specific product, distinct from Oman Air’s business class. It uses the former first-class suite on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner three-class aircraft, with eight enclosed suites, sliding doors, a 1-2-1 layout with direct aisle access, and an 82-inch (208 cm) fully flat bed. The experience suits long-haul travelers who value privacy, a personalized dining pace, and a quiet cabin more than a broad route network.
