Review of Jade Mountain

Location

Commanding panoramic Caribbean vistas, Jade Mountain Resort in Saint Lucia exemplifies architectural innovation seamlessly blended with the raw beauty of nature. Perched above its celebrated sibling, Anse Chastanet, this exclusive hilltop retreat occupies a privileged position within a sprawling 600-acre private estate. Guests enjoy privileged access to a comprehensive suite of amenities at both properties, including fine dining, spa therapies, pristine beaches, and aquatic adventures, all easily reached via a dedicated shuttle service.

The resort features 24 dramatic infinity pool suites—known as “sanctuaries”—and five Sky Jacuzzi suites, each offering unobstructed views across the UNESCO-listed Pitons and the Caribbean Sea. Every sanctuary is individually crafted and serviced by attentive Major Domos, providing discreet butler assistance 24/7. The philosophy at Jade Mountain is digital detox: there are no televisions, radios, or phones, and guests are encouraged to disconnect. However, Wi-Fi can be arranged upon request for those who wish to stay connected.

Jade Mountain is strictly for adults, ensuring a tranquil atmosphere. Facilities include the curated Shades of Jade Boutique, the Kai En Ciel Spa for bespoke wellness experiences (in-suite or in-spa), a climate-controlled gym outfitted with the latest Cybex and Life Fitness equipment, and the award-winning Jade Mountain Restaurant, renowned for Chef Allen Susser’s inventive Caribbean cuisine. The Celestial Terrace, with its sweeping sky-high views, is an idyllic setting for sunset cocktails and stargazing.

Accommodation

Nestled atop Morne Chastanet, Jade Mountain rises above the lush expanse of the Anse Chastanet estate, offering unrivaled sightlines of the iconic Pitons and the sparkling Caribbean Sea. The secluded hillside setting ensures both privacy and dramatic views. Guests can stroll down to Anse Chastanet’s vibrant beachfront in just ten minutes, or opt for a complimentary shuttle for added convenience.

The resort is situated approximately 2.4 kilometers north of Soufrière—a scenic, albeit rugged, 10-minute drive. Transfers from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) take about 55 minutes (27 km), while the journey from George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) in Castries spans roughly 75 minutes (43.4 km).

Service & Facilities

Each of Jade Mountain’s 24 sanctuary suites is an architectural marvel, featuring expansive open-plan living, sleeping, and bathing areas that flow seamlessly into private infinity pools. Three walls are sculpted from locally sourced stone, while the fourth is completely open—framing breathtaking views of Saint Lucia’s twin Pitons and the deep blue sea. Accessed by dramatic sky bridges, each sanctuary ensures absolute seclusion.

Suites are categorized based on size, pool dimensions, and vantage points, with the highest and corner sanctuaries delivering the most sweeping panoramas.

The “Star” sanctuaries offer between 130 and 167 square meters, with infinity pools averaging 42 sqm. “Moon” sanctuaries expand to 149–181 sqm and pools of around 60 sqm, while the “Sun” sanctuaries, positioned at loftier heights, reach up to 186 sqm with pools averaging 84 sqm. The “Galaxy” sanctuaries, perched at the resort’s zenith, provide the grandest living spaces (186 sqm) and the most expansive pools (84 sqm), located for optimal sunset and sea views.

Five Sky Jacuzzi Suites are situated on the lower slopes, featuring two-level layouts spanning approximately 153 sqm. Instead of a pool, each includes an elevated Jacuzzi tub offering panoramic vistas. One Sky suite is air-conditioned for added comfort.

Sanctuary amenities include fully stocked minibars, premium coffee and tea setups, hair dryers, irons, Frette linens, plush bathrobes, and Molton Brown bath products. Sun and Galaxy sanctuaries also boast curated wine cellars, featuring select vintages.

Jade Mountain’s commitment to tranquility means no TVs, radios, or telephones are present, though high-speed Wi-Fi is available upon request to support guests’ digital needs.

Exterior finishes blend raw concrete, indigenous stone, and tropical hardwood louvres, while interiors are softened with coral-hued plaster and bespoke Caribbean wood furnishings. Over 20 species of sustainable hardwoods are used in the flooring, reflecting the resort’s environmental ethos.

Bathrooms are generously appointed with whirlpool tubs for two, equipped with hydrotherapy jets and chromatherapy. Custom vanities are paired with European fixtures, coral-tiled floors, and handmade glass-tiled showers. High-tech rainfall showers, designer lighting, and luxury amenities complete the spa-like experience.

Infinity pools feature both shallow lounging zones and deep swimming areas, lit by customizable fiber-optic lighting. Each pool is finished with unique, iridescent glass tiles, individually crafted for Jade Mountain, and echoed in the bathroom mosaics—giving every sanctuary its own distinctive personality.

Style

Jade Mountain’s dedicated reception and concierge team ensure every guest’s needs are anticipated, from bespoke shopping at the Shades of Jade Boutique to arranging exclusive spa treatments at the tranquil Kai en Ciel Spa. Guests can indulge in a full menu of massages and wellness therapies either in the spa or in the privacy of their sanctuary, with complimentary sunrise yoga sessions offered daily.

As a guest of Jade Mountain, you also have privileged access to all facilities at Anse Chastanet, including restaurants, bars, and water sports, just a short stroll or shuttle ride away.

For enhanced relaxation, the expansive Kai Belté Spa at beach level features five air-conditioned treatment rooms, a beauty salon, and an open-air cabana with sweeping reef views. Treatments are tailored for individuals or couples, utilizing products from the resort’s own Emerald Farm, therapeutic blends from Aromatherapy Associates, and Ayurvedic traditions. Retail therapy is available at two beachfront boutiques and the on-site Art Gallery.

Sunseekers will appreciate two immaculate beaches, with plush loungers and attentive towel service. Anse Mamin, a more secluded cove, is easily reached by resort boat shuttle.

Curated experiences range from guided estate hikes and cultural workshops to marine excursions, scuba diving, mountain biking, kayaking, bird-watching, and deep-sea fishing. The resort also hosts chocolate tastings, cooking classes, and immersive farm visits, all celebrating the estate’s organic bounty and local heritage.

The Emerald Estate, located nearby in the Soufrière hills, has been the resort’s organic supply hub since 2007. Under the guidance of Chef Allen Susser, it produces vegetables, herbs, and over 2,000 cocoa trees—supporting Jade Mountain’s bean-to-bar chocolate program. The on-site Chocolate Laboratory offers hands-on workshops, tastings, and even spa treatments using the resort’s own chocolate creations.

Restaurants & Bars

Jade Mountain’s distinctive design—often likened to a cinematic hideaway—reflects the vision of owner-architect Nick Troubetzkoy, whose ethos is rooted in sustainable luxury. The property has earned global accolades for its avant-garde architecture and eco-conscious construction.

This sanctuary is crafted for those seeking immersive tranquility. Public Wi-Fi is limited to reception, and mobile phone use is discouraged in shared spaces, ensuring an atmosphere of genuine retreat. Each sanctuary is accessed by atmospheric wooden walkways, and the absence of in-room televisions or radios fosters a sense of profound relaxation. Wi-Fi is available in suites for guests who require connectivity.

A team of expert butlers and a knowledgeable concierge staff provide impeccable, round-the-clock service. Guests can enjoy the vibrant scene at Anse Chastanet below—whether it’s lounging on the beach, indulging at a restaurant, or partaking in curated activities—just a leisurely walk or swift shuttle ride from Jade Mountain’s serene heights.

For those seeking a rarefied blend of privacy, design, and natural beauty, Jade Mountain is a true Caribbean paradise.

Sustainability

The Jade Mountain Club, reserved exclusively for in-house guests, is a showpiece of contemporary Caribbean dining, with Chef Allen Susser’s “Jade Cuisine” blending global techniques and local flavors. The menu showcases organic produce—microgreens, exotic fruits, and specialty herbs—sourced from the resort’s Emerald Organic Farm. House-made chocolate from estate-grown cocoa features in both savory and sweet creations, and live music performances add a festive flair several nights a week. Above the Club, the Celestial Terrace offers a sublime setting for sunset drinks and stargazing.

Down at Anse Chastanet, guests can choose from three additional restaurants and two lively bars, as well as the Jungle Beach Bar & Grill at Anse Mamin. The Treehouse Restaurant, set in twin treetop pavilions, serves refined Caribbean cuisine with panoramic ocean views, while the Piti Piton Lounge presents an all-vegetarian Emerald menu. On the sand, Trou au Diable Beach Restaurant and Bar delivers Indian-Caribbean fusion and fresh-grilled fare, ensuring a diverse and dynamic culinary journey throughout your stay.

What We Love

Jade Mountain has championed sustainable hospitality long before it became a global imperative. Since acquiring the estate in the 1970s, owner Nick Troubetzkoy has embedded eco-friendly practices into every facet of the resort’s design and operation, placing a strong emphasis on cultural authenticity and community engagement.

Construction materials are locally sourced whenever possible, with supplemental finishes brought in from neighboring Caribbean islands. The resort’s on-site woodworking studio utilizes dense, sustainably harvested tropical hardwoods for much of the bespoke furnishing. A robust nursery supplies thousands of native plants, gradually transforming the hillside into a lush, green oasis reminiscent of the hanging gardens.

Jade Mountain’s management rigorously evaluates their environmental footprint, implementing ongoing staff training and strict protocols to minimize impact. All cleaning agents are biodegradable and non-toxic, and wastewater is processed through a sophisticated reed bed filtration system before being reused for irrigation. Rainwater harvesting and chlorine-free pool purification further reduce resource consumption.

Efforts to conserve native flora and fauna include protecting waterways and minimizing erosion, while the adjacent marine area is safeguarded as a designated reserve.

Energy efficiency is prioritized through maximized use of natural light, with turtle-friendly yellow lighting used outdoors and throughout the grounds. Except for 12 air-conditioned suites, most accommodations rely on cross-ventilation and open-air design for cooling.

Produce and seafood are procured locally or sourced directly from the Emerald Organic Farm, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of every meal served.

Personal care products are biodegradable, and linens are creatively repurposed for use in public and staff areas. The resort encourages guests to participate in eco-initiatives such as reef and beach cleanups, tree planting, and linen reuse programs.

Jade Mountain’s environmental team maintains close partnerships with the local community to uphold sustainable supply chains and preserve cultural heritage. Guests can purchase locally crafted art and products at the resort boutiques, further supporting the island’s artisans and economy.
