Review of The Beaumont Hotel

Location

The Beaumont Hotel stands as a beacon of luxury in London's prestigious Mayfair, drawing discerning travelers seeking an unrivaled blend of heritage and contemporary comfort. Since its 2014 debut, The Beaumont has established itself among the city’s most exclusive addresses, boasting 72 impeccably designed rooms and 29 suites.

Steeped in Art Deco grandeur reminiscent of the golden era of transatlantic travel, this privately owned hotel delivers a seamless fusion of British tradition and cosmopolitan flair. Renowned for its attentive, intuitive service, The Beaumont is celebrated for its sophisticated ambiance and attention to detail.

After an extensive renovation in 2021, the property introduced a new bedroom wing, two elegantly appointed private dining rooms, and a refreshed palette of colors and textures, all conceptualized by the legendary French designer Thierry Despont. Signature accommodations include the remarkable ROOM by acclaimed sculptor Antony Gormley—an immersive art installation as much as a suite—and the Roosevelt Suite, which can be expanded into a five-bedroom private enclave for the ultimate in privacy.

Gastronomy is a highlight here, with the Colony Grill Room serving as an all-day dining destination, the chic Gatsby's Room for casual meals, and the famed La Magritte Bar & Terrace—an ode to the American bar culture of 1920s Paris and London. Cigar aficionados will appreciate the lobby’s humidor, considered one of the finest in London.

Wellness offerings are equally impressive, including a resident-only gym, a full spa with steam and sauna facilities, expert grooming, and a comprehensive menu of beauty and therapeutic treatments.

Comparable to icons like The Connaught and The Stafford, The Beaumont offers an elevated, highly personalized hospitality experience for guests who expect nothing but the finest.

Accommodation

Nestled on a tranquil garden square in the heart of Mayfair, The Beaumont commands a coveted position that balances serenity with prime access to London’s most celebrated attractions. A short stroll brings guests to the designer boutiques of Bond Street, Mount Street, and Duke Street, while verdant escapes like Grosvenor Square, Berkeley Square, and Hyde Park are ideal for leisurely walks or a quiet respite.

Art connoisseurs and theatre enthusiasts will find themselves within easy reach of Mayfair’s storied galleries and the West End’s world-class performances—all comfortably walkable from the hotel. For those arriving by public transport, Bond Street Underground Station is just five minutes away on foot, providing effortless connectivity across London. Heathrow Airport is accessible in 35–55 minutes by car, while London City and Gatwick airports are reachable in 30–45 minutes and just under ninety minutes, respectively. Major railway hubs—including Paddington for the Heathrow Express, Victoria for the Gatwick Express, and St Pancras International—are all within convenient distance, making The Beaumont an optimal choice for international arrivals.

From the vantage point of Brown Hart Gardens, guests can glimpse the iconic Selfridges on Oxford Street, and nearby, the Ukrainian Catholic Church on Duke Street adds a touch of local character. The gardens themselves, a 1,000-square-metre oasis atop an electricity substation, offer a unique slice of London life.

There’s a singular pleasure in starting the day at The Beaumont—collecting a takeaway coffee from the front desk and exploring the quiet, elegant streets of Mayfair before the city truly awakens. It’s an authentic London experience at its most refined.

Service & Facilities

Every guestroom and suite at The Beaumont radiates Art Deco sophistication, blending plush materials with a timeless aesthetic and subtle modern touches.

Renowned designer Thierry Despont’s vision is evident throughout, with lustrous wood finishes, serene hues, and carefully curated artworks defining each space. My stay in Suite 506—the Mayfair Suite—offered a sanctuary of understated opulence and inviting warmth.

Spanning 60 square metres, the suite features a sunlit living area, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, and elegant period furnishings. Original artwork and vintage prints lend a cultivated ambiance, while the king-size bed, dressed in high-thread-count linens and a sumptuous down duvet, guarantees restorative sleep. The room’s centerpiece, a custom chandelier, bathes the bespoke furnishings—upholstered in luxurious fabrics—with a soft, golden glow inspired by the Jazz Age.

The marble-clad bathroom is a haven of indulgence, featuring heated floors, dual sinks, and a generous rain shower that envelops you in soothing warmth. The deep soaking tub is a welcome retreat after a day in the city, and the exclusive D.R. Harris amenities, created for The Beaumont, provide a sensory delight. Details such as an illuminated makeup mirror, plush robes, and a heated vanity mirror highlight the hotel’s attention to guest comfort.

Suite 506 enjoys leafy vistas over Brown Hart Gardens.

The sitting room is adorned with portraits of Sir Winston Churchill, a thoughtful selection of literature, and a well-stocked wet bar. The complimentary minibar is replenished daily, featuring soft drinks, teas, coffees, fresh milk, bottled water, gourmet snacks, and biscuits, with Champagne available for an additional charge—an impressive touch that enhances the residential feel.

Accommodation options cater to every preference—from Classic and Superior rooms with courtyard views to Premier rooms boasting both bathtubs and rain showers overlooking the gardens. For those desiring more space, Superior rooms and Studios provide generous seating areas and private entryways for added seclusion.

The Antony Gormley ROOM suite is a true showpiece within London’s luxury hotel scene. Conceived by the Turner Prize-winning artist, its bedroom is encased within a monolithic geometric sculpture, accessed via a private staircase from the suite’s living area. This immersive art installation offers a meditative, cocoon-like retreat with dark wood accents and minimalistic décor, enhanced by ambient lighting for an atmosphere of profound calm.

The Roosevelt Suite, crowning the fifth floor, offers the pinnacle of Beaumont luxury. Drawing inspiration from the grand ocean liners of the 1920s and 30s, it features a luminous salon, working fireplace, and a private terrace with sweeping Mayfair views. Art Deco furnishings, bronze details, and a handpicked art collection create an environment of cultivated exclusivity. The suite’s dining room seats eight, ideal for entertaining, while the master suite’s lavish appointments evoke the glamour of a bygone era.

Style

From the instant you arrive, The Beaumont envelops you in a cocoon of bespoke hospitality. The attentive Concierge and Reception teams are available 24/7, orchestrating everything from exclusive restaurant bookings and personalized sightseeing to seamless fulfillment of any guest request. Complementary amenities include valet parking, ultra-fast Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour house car—now fully electric and emissions-free, ideal for eco-conscious journeys around Mayfair.

The Beaumont Spa is a sanctuary of tranquility, designed in a striking Art Deco motif. The serene marble interiors evoke 1920s glamour while offering a comprehensive menu of restorative therapies, from tailored massages to advanced facials and a signature hammam ritual. Guests can also enjoy access to the adjacent wellness facilities, including a steam room, Finnish sauna, and an innovative ice bar. For those who prioritize fitness, the 24-hour gym features the latest Technogym equipment and Peloton bikes, catering to every workout preference.

Despite its vintage inspiration, The Beaumont is a forward-thinking property, equipped with sophisticated in-room technology and smart controls. While the ambiance may hint at the world of Gatsby or Hemingway, the conveniences are designed for today’s global traveler—whether you’re a creative, an executive, or a tech visionary.

Restaurants & Bars

The Beaumont’s interiors transport guests into a world of Art Deco romance, brought to life through polished wood paneling, mirrored accents, and bespoke furnishings. The most recent refurbishment, masterfully orchestrated by Thierry Despont, has infused the property with a contemporary edge while preserving its period character. The lobby’s cherrywood walls, plush seating, and gold-embroidered Pierre Frey drapes evoke the exclusivity of a private Mayfair club.

Art is at the heart of the Beaumont experience, with a collection curated by Zuleika Gallery. Works by 20th-century masters and modern talents—including Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell, and Henri Matisse—adorn the halls and public spaces, reflecting the neighborhood’s rich artistic legacy. Every element, from lighting to sculpture, is chosen to build an atmosphere of timeless glamour and discreet luxury.

The building’s fascinating history begins in 1926 as Macy’s Garage—a four-story car park and petrol station designed by the same architect responsible for Fortnum & Mason. The structure later housed Dagenham Motors and Avis Rent-a-Car before its transformation.

In 2014, visionaries Chris Corbin and Jeremy King—legends of London’s hospitality scene—launched The Beaumont, inspired by the fictional narrative of James "Jimmy" Beaumont, an American hotelier who fled New York for London in the Roaring Twenties. This imaginative backstory lends the hotel a unique charm, blending literary whimsy with authentic luxury worthy of the city’s grandest traditions.

Sustainability

The Beaumont’s culinary offerings are as memorable as its design, with each venue marrying Art Deco opulence with a distinct gastronomic identity.

The Colony Grill Room: The hotel’s flagship restaurant exudes a blend of Manhattan cool and British refinement. The menu is a celebration of transatlantic classics—think fresh seafood, prime cuts, and seasonal salads. Interiors feature deep red banquettes, gleaming wood, and retro lighting, creating an inviting yet sophisticated setting. The Colony Grill Room is lauded for its expertly prepared steaks and inventive cocktails, drawing both local connoisseurs and international guests.

Le Magritte Bar: Echoing the spirit of American bars in 1920s Paris, Le Magritte offers an atmospheric retreat with signature cocktails, rare bourbons, and a curated selection of American whiskeys. The bar’s alabaster columns, cherrywood details, and subtle nods to René Magritte make it a standout destination for an evening aperitif or nightcap, complemented by refined bar snacks.

Gatsby’s Room: Centrally located within the hotel, Gatsby’s Room is the ideal setting for afternoon tea, Champagne, or a leisurely breakfast. The Art Deco ambiance and relaxed elegance make it a favorite for informal gatherings or a quiet moment of indulgence.

The Terrace: Overlooking Brown Hart Gardens, The Terrace offers alfresco dining with a Mayfair twist. Rattan chairs, lush foliage, and a menu of light, seasonal fare create a chic yet relaxed outdoor experience—perfect for people-watching or savoring a glass of wine beneath the London sky.

The hotel’s bespoke humidor, crafted by DeArt of Italy and displayed by La Magritte Bar, is a must for cigar lovers. The collection is meticulously maintained, with highlights such as the rare Cohiba 55 Aniversario available for the aficionado.

What We Love

The Beaumont is at the forefront of sustainable luxury in London, implementing comprehensive initiatives that minimize its ecological footprint while enhancing guest comfort:

  • Plastic Reduction: Single-use plastics have been nearly eliminated, replaced with refillable, full-size amenities in all bathrooms. This shift significantly cuts plastic waste while maintaining a premium guest experience.
  • Recycling & Waste Management: The Beaumont’s robust recycling program includes initiatives such as repurposing wine corks in partnership with Recorked UK. Food waste is meticulously managed to reduce landfill impact, using innovative composting and responsible disposal practices.
  • Local, Seasonal Sourcing: The hotel’s culinary teams prioritize British produce and seasonal ingredients, reducing food miles and supporting local farmers and artisans.
  • Green Transport: Guests can take advantage of the hotel’s eco-friendly, emissions-free house car for local travel, blending convenience with a commitment to environmental stewardship.

With these forward-thinking practices, The Beaumont delivers an elevated guest experience while championing sustainability and environmental consciousness in the heart of Mayfair.
