Location

For almost one hundred years, The Dorchester—flagship of the Dorchester Collection—has remained one of London’s most legendary luxury hotels. Perfectly positioned on Park Lane opposite Hyde Park, The Dorchester has been an emblem of refined hospitality since opening its doors in 1931. Over the decades, the hotel has undergone a series of thoughtful renovations, blending its storied past with contemporary elegance.

With 250 rooms and suites, including three spectacular rooftop suites, The Dorchester delivers an unparalleled array of accommodation. Epicureans will be delighted by the hotel’s diverse gastronomic offerings, highlighted by Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, which continues to hold three coveted Michelin stars—one of only two hotel restaurants in London to achieve such distinction. Timeless English afternoon tea is served daily in The Promenade, a tradition maintained since the hotel’s inception. The Dorchester Spa offers an extensive menu of bespoke treatments, while guests can also enjoy the 20-metre pool at 45 Park Lane, the hotel’s adjacent sister property.

The hotel’s site has been home to grand residences since 1751; the current Art Deco masterpiece was unveiled in 1931 after Dorchester House, once the residence of the US Ambassador, was demolished. The Dorchester’s interiors still showcase the exquisite period design that has made it a London landmark.

Hyde Park’s lush open spaces lie to the west, while the fashionable boutiques and gourmet restaurants of Mayfair are moments to the east, and Hyde Park Corner is just to the south. The hotel’s proximity to 45 Park Lane, which houses the acclaimed CUT steakhouse and a striking indoor pool, adds to its appeal. Restaurants & Bars

Unlike many of London’s heritage hotels, The Dorchester stands as a relatively modern marvel, constructed in the late 1920s and pioneering the exclusive use of reinforced concrete for its exterior. Its instantly recognizable Art Deco facade and interiors evoke a sense of timeless glamour. Remarkably, the hotel’s eight floors were built in just ten weeks. Sir Malcolm McAlpine, the original owner, envisioned a structure resilient to bombs, earthquakes, and fires—a vision that proved prescient during the Second World War, when the hotel emerged largely unscathed. The distinctive facade features three windows per floor, and dynamic lighting installations allow the hotel to transform its appearance for special occasions.

The innovative construction enabled the creation of vast, pillar-free public spaces, resulting in grand lobbies, expansive dining rooms, and an airy ambiance throughout. Interiors are adorned with gleaming marble, gilded details, and dazzling chandeliers, while the iconic doormen don deep green uniforms first introduced in 1980. Guest rooms and suites are primarily decorated in soothing pastels for a refined, classic feel, though select accommodations feature bold contemporary design for a modern aesthetic.

The Dorchester’s ambitious renovation, launched in 2024, has refreshed the main entrance, The Promenade, The Bar at The Dorchester, and two guest floors, ensuring the property remains at the forefront of London luxury as of 2025.

Sustainability

The Dorchester has long set the standard for luxury hotel dining in London.

At the heart of the hotel's culinary scene is Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, the only three Michelin-starred restaurant in a London hotel. Under the direction of Executive Chef Jean-Philippe Blondet, the menu dazzles with contemporary French cuisine—think sautéed lobster with silky chicken velouté—and an innovative vegetarian tasting menu spotlighting locally sourced produce. This is widely regarded as one of the capital’s most exceptional gastronomic experiences.

The Grill by Tom Booton brings a modern twist to British classics, with signature dishes such as the lobster thermidor tart earning critical acclaim. The Grill Bar serves both inventive and timeless cocktails, as well as an à la carte breakfast considered among the city’s finest.

China Tang, founded by the late Sir David Tang, is a beloved institution for Cantonese fine dining. Its opulent Art Deco interiors transport guests to 1930s Shanghai, while the legendary Peking Duck remains a must-try, expertly carved and presented for an unforgettable meal.

The Promenade is renowned for its indulgent English afternoon tea, featuring an array of delicate pastries, finger sandwiches, and an extensive tea selection. The service is consistently impeccable, rivaling the best in London.

The Dorchester Rooftop, perched on the ninth floor, offers panoramic city views, seasonal menus, and live music, making it a sought-after destination for al fresco dining (the rooftop reopens in spring 2025 following its winter closure).

Parcafé, the hotel’s chic café overlooking Park Lane, is ideal for freshly brewed coffee and gourmet snacks, catering to both hotel guests and Mayfair locals.

For a truly exclusive experience, The Chef’s Table offers front-row seats to the culinary action, while The Wine Vault—curated by the hotel’s master sommelier—invites guests to explore an extraordinary collection of rare vintages from around the world.

Guests can also unwind in The Bar at The Dorchester, or enjoy a refined meal in the privacy of their suite with the hotel’s renowned in-room dining.
