As digital education evolves, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Rai has pioneered an extraordinary online initiative, connecting schoolchildren worldwide with rescued elephants for an unforgettable virtual safari.
Through complimentary live-streamed field trips, children from any location can interact with the majestic Asian elephants of Northern Thailand, fostering empathy and curiosity while learning directly from conservation experts. These sessions are available for both individual students and classroom groups, making wildlife education more accessible and engaging than ever.
During each interactive session, participants are introduced to the elephants and their mahouts, with conservation specialists from the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) answering questions in real time. Since its inception in 2003, GTAEF has rescued over 60 elephants, with 23 currently residing with their dedicated caregivers on the Anantara Resort grounds.
Since remote learning surged in popularity, GTAEF has regularly broadcasted live footage of elephants foraging, socializing, and bathing in the serene Ruak River, attracting a global audience of more than five million viewers.
John Roberts, Group Director of Sustainability & Conservation for Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, highlights the program’s international impact: children from every continent have tuned in, often equipped with homemade binoculars and creative costumes, to witness these gentle giants explore their lush jungle habitat.
“This virtual experience offers a meaningful bridge between digital learning and nature-based discovery, providing inspiration and joy to young minds during uncertain times. We are nurturing future conservationists and perhaps even tomorrow’s elephant veterinarians, all from the heart of the Thai jungle,” Roberts explains.
