Rising star Vistara unveils their new B787-9 Dreamliner

Luxury airline Vistara, a standout in the Indian aviation industry, has introduced its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, signaling a major step forward in its global ambitions. The carrier unveiled this flagship aircraft at an exclusive event in New Delhi, showcasing sophisticated new cabins designed to elevate the long-haul travel experience.

Established through a strategic partnership between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons in 2013, Vistara began operations in January 2015, connecting New Delhi and Mumbai. Since the exit of Kingfisher Airlines in 2012 and the closure of Jet Airways in 2019, Vistara has risen to prominence as India’s premier full-service airline, renowned for consistently high service standards. Having launched international routes in 2019 with B737-800NGs, Vistara has since introduced the B787-9 Dreamliner to its fleet, with additional Dreamliners joining throughout 2025 as the airline accelerates its overseas expansion. Today, Vistara serves over 40 destinations and continues to grow its network aggressively.

Indian regulations limit foreign investment in domestic airlines to a maximum of 49%, so Vistara remains 51% owned by Tata Sons and 49% by Singapore Airlines. Tata’s legacy in Indian aviation is storied, dating back to the founding of Tata Airlines in the 1930s, which evolved into Air India post-nationalization in 1953.

For decades, Singapore Airlines has been the preferred choice for premium travelers heading between India and Southeast Asia, Australasia, and beyond, but its network has not optimized direct links to Europe and North America. Vistara bridges this gap, leveraging Singapore Airlines’ operational excellence and Tata’s deep local expertise. The airline now operates daily nonstops to London and Tokyo, with plans to add more European and North American gateways in the coming year. The Dreamliner is currently scheduled on flagship international routes and select high-demand domestic sectors, ensuring crew proficiency and brand consistency.

Vistara’s new Business Class on the B787-9 impresses with a refined yet distinctive design. The seats, crafted by Stelia Aerospace, mirror the latest premium products found on Singapore Airlines’ B787-10 and A350-900, as well as Turkish Airlines’ long-haul cabins. However, Vistara’s unique palette—elegant grey leather with deep red accents and plush velvet details—creates a sense of exclusive comfort. Each Business Class suite offers direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 configuration, transforming into a fully flat bed for restful sleep. Passengers enjoy a state-of-the-art 18-inch touchscreen entertainment system with an intuitive remote, customizable ambient lighting, and thoughtful storage spaces. Premium Economy and Economy cabins feature harmonious color schemes and upgraded ergonomics, ensuring a consistently high standard throughout the aircraft.
