Review of SAS Business Class
SAS offers one of the best long haul Business Class experiences of any European carrier, with solid cabin products and an innovative food & beverage offering. Staying true to its roots, the airline provides a genuinely Scandinavian travel experience with a strong focus on local touches and sustainability.Scandinavian Airlines System, generally referred to as SAS, is the flag carrier of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. While domestic and regional flights form the backbone of the airline's operation, long haul Business Class remains a flagship product. SAS serves almost a dozen destinations to the USA, China and Japan from its three central hubs in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo, respectively, and with the introduction of the latest-generation Airbus A321LR aircraft, the carrier is returning to Canada after a 30-year hiatus with flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm. After more than three decades, SAS also resumed a daily route from Copenhagen to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport.SAS has officially joined SkyTeam - becoming the 20th active member of the alliance. SAS EuroBonus members can now earn and redeem points across most of the other 19-strong SkyTeam airlines. Gold and Diamond members have access to SkyPriority services and lounges. EuroBonus Silver members are now SkyTeam Elite members, and Gold and Diamond members recieve Elite Plus status.
Oct 11, 2024Review of SAS Premium Economy
Scandinavian Airlines System, widely known as SAS, is the flag carrier of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. While Business Class is the flagship product, Premium Economy - or SAS Plus as it is known – offers a compelling option for passengers desiring more comfort at affordable prices on routes to Asia, North America, and Canada.SAS was an early adopter of the Premium Economy concept - with SAS Economy Extra launching back in 2002. Renamed SAS Plus in 2013, the airline offers a solid Premium Economy product that has become popular with travellers. Passenger perks of SAS Plus includes a free baggage allowance, fast-track security, and complimentary SAS Lounge access. Long-haul passengers receive significantly more legroom with wider seats, a greater reclining angle, a better choice of cuisine, and complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Advance seat selection is sadly no longer included in SAS Plus unless you have SAS EuroBonus Gold or Diamond status.SAS Plus tickets come in four different ticket iterations, with SAS Plus Pro offering the most flexibility with refundable tickets that can also be rebooked.SAS has officially joined SkyTeam - becoming the 20th active member of the alliance.
Oct 11, 2024Review of Icelandair Business Class
Icelandair is the perfect example of how a successful airline can be born out of a modestly sized island nation with big ambitions. Iceland has a population of less than 400,000, yet Icelandair – the national carrier - transports over 4 million passengers per year. The Business Class product offered by Icelandair may not be the most glamorous in the skies, yet it has a loyal following who appreciate the airline’s attractive pricing and impressive transatlantic network.Today, Icelandair is a major player in the transatlantic market, connecting 31 airports in Europe with 12 airports in the USA and two (Vancouver and Toronto) in Canada.Until 2018, Icelandair called its premium cabin Saga Class – which was then rebranded to Saga Premium. Staff will informally refer to Saga Premium as Business Class, but the change may have been a clever move, helping to manage passenger expectations.Icelandair was one of the first airlines to offer a stopover program letting customers make a stop in Iceland with no extra charge to the ticket. There are numerous Icelandic touches to your journey -especially in the food and beverage offering.Frequent fliers on Icelandair are invited to join the airline´s loyalty programme - Saga Club - which offers three tier levels – Blu, Silver and Gold. Icelandair is not a member of any airline alliance, but it has codeshare partnerships with Air Baltic, Alaska Airlines, Finnair, JetBlue, and SAS. Agreements with an additional 50 airlines allows for seamless connections.

Review of Singapore Airlines First Class
Singapore Airlines, also known as SIA, is the multi-award-winning flag carrier of Singapore and is regarded as one of the finest airlines in the world. The carrier is renowned for its quality products, style and inflight service. The jewel in the crown is the airline´s First Class, which comes in two distinctly different versions. Traditional First Class is offered across the carrier´s fleet of 20 Boeing 777-300ERs, while the 12-strong fleet of A380s feature an elevated First Class product branded as Suites. No matter which version you fly - the experience is one of the finest in the skies. The global geography of Singapore means that it has become a hub for intercontinental travel, with flights connecting North America, Europe, much of Asia and Oceania. The country has invested heavily in developing Changi Airport as a hub, and Singapore Airlines First Class passengers enjoy access to some of the most exclusive areas within the airport.Members of the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer frequent flyer program accrue “PPS value” when flying Business Class or First Class. The value is counted towards The PPS Club, a unique “club within the club” that has been created to provide extra care and services for premium customers. Top flyers may qualify for Solitaire PPS membership, which provides even more privileges, personal attention and recognition.SIA is a Star Alliance member, allowing its loyalty program members to earn or redeem miles with its partner airlines. Customers seamlessly connect between member airlines on the same itinerary, which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, United Airlines, Air New Zealand, TAP Air Portugal and EVA Air.

Review of Surinam Airways Business Class
Surinam Airways – known locally as SLM - is one of the smallest national airlines in the world. From its base at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport, the carrier offers a single long-haul route connecting the former Dutch colony with Amsterdam. Four times a week, Surinam Airways makes the nine-hour journey across the Mid-Atlantic. The small size of the carrier does not stop it from offering a competitive Business Class product to those looking for a comfortable journey. While Paramaribo to Amsterdam is the obvious flagship route of Surinam Airways and has been operating since 1975, the airline also offers a regional network of shorter flights connecting Suriname with Miami as well as several destinations in the Caribbean and South America. Surinam Airways is currently in the unusual position of being a national airline without any of their own aircraft. Pre-2021, Surinam Airways operated an ex-Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-200ER (complete with the ultra-wide Singapore Airlines Business Class seats) and two Boeing 737-700s, all in Surinam Airways livery. In an effort to limit the impact of the COVID pandemic, the airline cancelled the leases and currently operates exclusively on a “wet-lease” model. Aircraft and crews are supplied by other airlines flying on behalf of Suriname Airways. Everything else is still Surinam Airways, including onboard service concepts, catering, and the airport experience. The Paramaribo to Amsterdam route is currently served by Spanish airline Wamos. Surinam Airways is now firming up plans to once again lease aircraft for themselves to operate. The carrier offers a frequent flyer programme - Loyal Wings, where members can earn Wings by flying on Surinam Airways flights. The Wings can be used for reward flights or upgrades. Surinam Airways is not a member of any airline alliance.

Review of Virgin Australia Business Class
Virgin Australia is Australia’s second-biggest airline - after Qantas. It was launched in 2000 as low-cost flyer Virgin Blue, but has evolved into a full-service airline, now offering Business Class on all its flights. Before the pandemic, Virgin Australia operated a large network of domestic and international routes from its hubs in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. That all changed in 2020 due to a combination of financial problems and the impact of COVID. Virgin Australia went into administration - although it continued to operate - and was acquired by a US private investment firm. A new CEO was drafted in, and the company was restructured with a renewed focus on its heartland customers, who it identifies as ‘value-conscious corporate and small to medium-sized business travellers and premium leisure travellers’. Headquartered in Brisbane in Queensland, Virgin Australia now operates exclusively Boeing 737 aircraft. 737-800 jets form the backbone of the current fleet, with new Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 10 due to start joining from 2023. Virgin Australia services 33 domestic destinations and just four international destinations (Queenstown, New Zealand; Denpasar, Indonesia; Nadi, Fiji, and the Cocos/Keeling Islands). Although Virgin Australia is under new ownership and management, the airline remains part of the “Virgin family”, and aircraft sport a livery that resembles that of London-based Virgin Atlantic. Conceived in 1970 by Sir Richard Branson, the Virgin Group has over the years created more than 300 branded companies – with Virgin Galactic as one of the latest. Virgin Australia’s frequent flyer program is called Velocity Frequent Flyer. It’s free to be a member, and it has four tiers - Red, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. You can accrue and redeem points in all the usual ways, including spending with a partner credit card, car hire company or hotel. Virgin Australia has a range of codeshare agreements - with Air Canada, All Nippon Airways, Beijing Capital Airlines, Etihad Airways, Hainan Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South Africa Airways, Tianjin Airlines, United Airlines, Qatar Airways and, of course, with Virgin Atlantic.

Review of Malaysia Airlines Business Class
Malaysia Airlines is Malaysia's national flag carrier. It was first created as Malayan Airways in the 1930s, based in Singapore, and indeed the airline shares its early history with Singapore Airlines. From 1966 to 1972 it was branded as Malaysia-Singapore Airlines, before eventually being spilt into what we know today as Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Even to this day, travellers may notice some similarities between the Business Class experiences of both airlines. Following years of financial struggles and unprofitability, Malaysia Airlines was renationalised in 2015. It is part of the Malaysia Aviation Group, which also includes regional airlines Firefly and MASwings. Malaysia Airlines is headquartered at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and operates a busy roster of domestic and global flights, including Asia, Australia / New Zealand, the Middle East, and Europe. The company currently operates approximately 80 aircraft - Boeing 737-800, Airbus A330-200, A330-300, and Airbus A350-900. Malaysia Airlines' logo is based on a traditional Malaysian wau bulan or moon kite. These kites are typically decorated with floral patterns and, when flown, recall a rising crescent moon. The aircraft livery is inspired by the Malaysian flag (known as 'The Stripes of Glory') and features bold red and blue stripes with a crescent moon and a 14-point star (the Bintang Persekutuan) in yellow. The airlines' frequent-flyer program is called Enrich and enables passengers to accumulate Enrich Points on both Malaysia Airlines and its partners. Malaysia Airlines is a member of the oneworld airline alliance, which connects 1,000 destinations in more than 170 territories, and has access to over 650 airport lounges worldwide. Malaysia Airlines offers Business Class on all its flights, but also offers a product branded as Business Suite on flights operated by A350 aircraft. This is essentially the former Malaysia Airlines First Class product which has been rebranded. Business Suite still offers an experience that is akin to First Class and should not be confused with Malaysia Airlines Business Class.

Review of Qantas Business Class
Qantas is an iconic Australian brand with a proud heritage. It is Australia’s national flag carrier and the largest airline - in terms of its fleet size and number of international flights. It claims that in 1979 , it was the first international airline to formally offer a dedicated Business Class cabin. Qantas is one of the oldest airlines still in operation and was launched in 1920 by two World War One veterans as an airmail operation in the outback of Queensland (Qantas is an acronym of Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited). It ran the country’s first flying doctor service and began international passenger flights in 1935. In 2018, it launched the first direct flight between Australia and Europe (Perth - London) and in 2020 celebrated its centenary. In many ways, the company’s claim that ‘the story of Qantas is the story of modern Australia' rings true. The airline connects to more than 135 destinations around Australia and the world - including the UK, USA, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, and Thailand.Qantas operates over 100 aircraft - Boeing 737 / 737 NG / 737 MAX, Airbus A330 / A380 with the new generation Airbus A350 arriving soon. It provides Business Class on all its main international flights. The Qantas livery features a white body and a bright red tail fin sporting the famous Qantas kangaroo logo designed by celebrated German-Australian graphic designer Gert Sellheim in 1947. Back in the day, the kangaroo had wings, but they were clipped during a redesign in the Eighties.Qantas’ Frequent Flyer program has four tiers - Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One. Points can be redeemed against flights, upgrades, and other benefits.Qantas was a founder member of the Oneworld global airline alliance (1998). Members can earn and redeem points with multiple airlines and enjoy benefits including priority boarding, easy flight bookings and access to some 650 airport lounges worldwide.
Jul 20, 2024Review of Condor Business Class
Condor may not be a household name outside of Germany, but the airline is on a transformational journey to greatness - with a contemporary, distinct, and solid Business Class. Condor is primarily labelled as a leisure airline – but now sports one of the best and most consistent Business Class experiences in Europe. The new Business Class product was unveiled in July 2022 and is the jewel in the crown of a brand makeover that has the jury divided. There are stripes everywhere – at the airport, on the aircraft, throughout the cabins and in all marketing collaterals. The new design has resulted in comments ranging from bold, beautiful, and brilliant to some saying it is the ugliest airline design of all time. Like it or not, there is no denying that the airline has embraced the distinct design and made everyone stand up and notice. The design has also been implemented in an impressive way – making the branding come alive. There are five brand colours that each have its own name: Blue – Sea, Green – Island, Beige – Sand, Red – Passion and Yellow – Sun.Condor was born as a German leisure airline in 1955 and has been part of the Lufthansa Group and Thomas Cook before being acquired by European asset manager Attestor. While Condor has traditionally operated routes from Germany to typical leisure destinations in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Africa and Asia and North America, the network has expanded to include destinations with a more corporate profile. In the summer of 2024, Condor will operate flights to 18 destinations in North America – more than ever before. As the airline continues to expand its global reach, it is seeing a more diverse passenger mix – including corporate travellers. Condor often offers attractive fares in Business Class, even up until just a few days before departure.Condor currently does not offer its own frequent flyer program, but it works with selected partner programs such as Emirates Skywards and Alaska Mileage Program. Codeshare partnerships exist with several airlines, including Emirates, Alaska and Marabu. Condor also has interline agreements with airlines such as Lufthansa and JetBlue, making it easy for passengers connecting from airports that Condor does not serve itself. One point to note is however that if you book a Condor Business Class flight originating from an airport such as London or Stockholm, the short feeder flights are booked in Economy Class. You will however still enjoy the full Condor Business Class baggage allowance. As of March 2024, all Condor long haul flights are operated by a fleet of 14 new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, marking the completion of a fleet renewal program that has seen the old Boeing 767-300s and Airbus A330-200s retired. The 21-strong order of Airbus A330-900neo long haul aircraft includes jets painted with blue, green and beige stripes.

Condor Prime Seats - Elevating the Travel Experience

One of these airlines is German leisure airline Condor with its Prime Seats. Businessclass took to the skies to find out more.

Review of SWISS First Class
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), the flag carrier of Switzerland, is the only major airline in the world offering First Class on all of its long-haul flights. The airline symbolises its country’s traditions and values - delivering the highest standards of product & service. It comes as no surprise therefore that SWISS provides one of the finest First Class experiences in the world – arguably a notch above that of its bigger sibling, Lufthansa.SWISS was formed in 2002 following the demise of Swissair. In late 2005 the airline was taken over by Germany’s Lufthansa Group. Today, SWISS is the second largest airline in the group, that also includes Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings. SWISS operates one of Europe´s most advanced and carbon-efficient fleets of aircraft. Serving over 100 countries globally from its central hub in Zürich, SWISS is a member of the Star Alliance partnership, allowing passengers to fly and earn miles with member airlines. However, First Class tickets cannot be purchased using frequent flier points unless booked through Miles & More Senator elite or HON Circle member status – which is notoriously difficult to achieve.Read about SWISS First Class on swiss.com

Which airline has the best First Class wine list?
A wine list will never be the sole reason somebody would buy a First or Business Class ticket for a flight. However, with today’s competition among airlines for the loyalty of high-paying passengers, an interesting and quality wine list can certainly make a great trip better, and a particularly good bottle may well be one of the most memorable aspects of the flight.

Review of Raffles Singapore
Raffles Singapore opened in 1887 as a beach resort with just 10 guest rooms. It was named after Sir Stamford Raffles, who founded modern Singapore in the early 19th century. Today, some 130 years later, Raffles Singapore is one of the oldest luxury hotels in the world, offering only 115 suites and is also a National Monument – an accolade conferred upon it in 1987 by the Singaporean Government. The island-nation of Singapore is filled with magnificent contemporary hotels & resorts – at the cutting edge of technology and architecture - but Raffles - complete with its tropical gardens - is still the most revered. Over the centuries, Singapore has been a melting pot for Asian cultures so expect Indian, Chinese, Japanese and other influences in the architecture and cuisine throughout the Island and indeed hotel. The hotel boasts 9 restaurants & bars. Anne-Sophie Pic won a Michelin star for La Dame de Pic at Raffles Hotel in 2022 and BBR by Alain Ducasse can be found in the cherished Bar & Billiard Room.
