For discerning travelers seeking a refined long-haul journey, SAS Business Class stands out among European airlines, blending modern cabin amenities and a progressive culinary program. SAS crafts a distinctly Nordic experience, highlighting regional heritage and a deep commitment to sustainability across its operations.
Scandinavian Airlines System—commonly known as SAS—serves as the national airline for Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. While the majority of routes are intra-Europe, the intercontinental Business Class offering is the airline’s showpiece. SAS connects its main hubs in Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo with major cities in North America and Asia, including the USA, China, and Japan. The latest-generation Airbus A321LR aircraft now enable direct flights from Scandinavia to Canada—a notable return after three decades—as well as an enhanced daily connection between Copenhagen and New York JFK.
SAS’s recent induction into the SkyTeam alliance as the 20th active member has significantly expanded loyalty benefits. EuroBonus members can now accrue and redeem points across SkyTeam’s global network. Gold and Diamond members enjoy SkyPriority privileges and access to SkyTeam lounges, while Silver status equates to SkyTeam Elite, and Gold/Diamond members receive Elite Plus recognition.
Airport experience
SAS Business Class travelers are greeted with a seamless airport process, featuring priority check-in, expedited security channels, exclusive lounge access, and priority boarding. At Copenhagen Airport, SAS operates a dedicated private fast-track for premium guests, distinct from the main airport fast-track lane.
The SAS mobile app streamlines the check-in process, offering digital boarding passes and up-to-date flight information for a smooth start to the journey.
Flagship SAS lounges in Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo offer separate zones for Business Class and elite status passengers. The Gold lounges deliver enhanced culinary options, premium wines by the bottle, and a full selection of spirits. Across all lounges, the décor is characteristically Scandinavian—minimalist, bright, and sophisticated, using natural woods and light hues. Guests enjoy a buffet breakfast with extensive choices, while later meal periods focus on fresh salads, snacks, and a rotating soup as the hot dish. Additional amenities include showers and on-site customer service desks. Select lounges feature barista coffee, daylight therapy areas, and innovation hubs showcasing emerging travel tech.
Following recent consolidation, SAS no longer operates lounges in Helsinki and Paris Charles de Gaulle, but maintains premium spaces in New York Newark, Chicago O’Hare, and Gothenburg. Regional airports such as Bergen, Tromsø, and Trondheim offer simpler SAS Café Lounges. At other destinations, SAS Business Class guests receive access to over 100 partner lounges worldwide through SkyTeam.

Cabin & Seat
SAS Business Class features a sleek, contemporary Nordic aesthetic, using deep greys, black accents, brushed metals, and subtle pops of orange. The seat design is both visually striking and functionally refined, offering a private, tranquil environment. Each seat is upholstered in premium charcoal fabric and transforms effortlessly into a fully flat bed at the touch of a button. The 1-2-1 layout ensures direct aisle access for every traveler, maximizing both privacy and convenience.
The staggered arrangement means window seats are particularly private, while aisle seats are ideal for guests who value easy access. Bulkhead rows provide the most generous footwells and extra space. Center pairs are separated by a fixed privacy divider and wide armrests, allowing for conversation between companions without sacrificing personal space.
On the A330-300, all Business Class seats are in a single cabin, while the A350-900 introduces a coveted "mini-cabin" of just eight seats, creating an intimate and exclusive feel—though meal service may be slower due to the back-to-front serving order.
The cutting-edge Airbus A321LR fleet enables direct flights to destinations as far as India, Canada, and the US East Coast. The 22-seat Business Class cabin alternates between 2-2 and 1-1 layouts, with six coveted "throne seats" providing unmatched space and privacy for solo travelers. Each seat features SAS’s signature blue accents, a large entertainment screen, and personal charging outlets.
Seats extend to nearly two meters when fully flat, with armrests that retract for additional width. SAS partners with renowned Swedish bedding brand Hästens to provide luxurious bedding, including a custom-designed light grey version of their iconic linens, ensuring restful sleep above the clouds.
Advance seat selection now requires EuroBonus Gold or Diamond status, adding a layer of exclusivity for frequent flyers.
The Businessclass flight search offers detailed seat maps, images, and technical specs for most aircraft, empowering travelers to choose their ideal seat configuration.

Cuisine
SAS Business Class is renowned for its elevated in-flight dining, combining contemporary Scandinavian cuisine with global influences. Guests are treated to two thoughtfully curated meals, with the first service offering a complete restaurant-style experience. Menus departing Scandinavia highlight regional producers, while outstation flights incorporate local delicacies for a sense of place.
Lunch and dinner begin with a selection of drinks and warm nuts, beautifully presented. The table setting features pale grey linen, bespoke Georg Jensen cutlery, Orrefors glassware, and Royal Copenhagen porcelain—each piece a nod to Scandinavian craftsmanship.
SAS has brought back its popular trolley service for most long-haul flights, allowing passengers to select from beautifully displayed appetizers and salads. On single-aisle A321LR flights, a tray service is provided for efficiency. The first trolley offers a choice of two cold starters, paired with fresh salads, assorted breads, and a variety of dressings.
A highlight is the signature Kalix vendace roe, a Swedish luxury delicacy with protected designation, served in glass jars atop organic crème fraîche and chives, accompanied by Västerbotten cheese crispbread. This dish, celebrated at Nobel banquets and royal dinners, is available seasonally and adds a touch of exclusivity to the experience.
The main meal follows, with a choice of four entrees: typically a premium red meat, poultry, seafood, and a creative vegetarian option. For flights to or from Asia, an Asian-inspired dish is always available. A third trolley presents an array of fine cheeses, fresh fruit, cakes, and artisanal ice cream, capped off with hand-crafted pralines.
The second meal, served pre-arrival, is lighter—often a classic Scandinavian open sandwich with fruit or pastry on transatlantic flights, or a more robust buffet-style service on Asian routes. Breakfast features hot and cold choices, with muesli, yogurt, preserves, and an assortment of pastries and breads.
Throughout the flight, a snack bar near the galley provides both savory and sweet treats for guests seeking refreshment between meals.

Beverages
SAS offers a curated beverage selection that rivals any European airline, with a focus on premium Scandinavian producers and global favorites.
Guests enjoy a range of local spirits, including Danish Mikkeller vodka, Swedish single malt from Västernorrland, Danish rye whisky, Norwegian Harahorn gin, and Sweden’s celebrated Hernö gin. Craft beer enthusiasts are delighted by up to four Mikkeller brews alongside classic Carlsberg. In partnership with Stockholm’s Tjoget—ranked among the world’s top 50 bars—SAS serves bespoke organic cocktails and mocktails, each crafted for optimal taste at altitude. Norwegian farm-pressed Ringi apple juice rounds out the Nordic offerings.
The wine list features a well-balanced mix of Old and New World varieties, typically two reds, two whites, and an elegant Champagne. SAS has recently enhanced its Champagne program, rotating rare "grower" vintage Champagnes for limited periods alongside a consistent house pour—Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve remains the staple, complemented by small-batch 'Special Club' selections such as Joseph-Loriot Pagel Special Club 2012, when available.
After dinner, guests are offered vintage port, dessert wines, and a curated selection of cognacs and liqueurs to accompany cheese and sweets.
Hot beverage connoisseurs will appreciate Dammann Frères teas and espresso-based drinks from Illy, freshly prepared on board. Fairtrade-certified French press coffee from Johan & Nyström, based in Stockholm, is also available for an authentic taste of Sweden.

Service
SAS service philosophy is rooted in Scandinavian values—attentive yet understated. During our recent flights, we observed that while the overall hospitality is warm and efficient, there are occasional variations in consistency. On some journeys, the crew delivers truly memorable, proactive service; on others, interactions may feel more reserved.
Cabin teams typically comprise staff from Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, with additional native-speaking crew on routes to China and Japan to provide tailored service and language support.
Each flight is overseen by a senior Air Purser, who often sets the tone for the journey with professionalism, expertise, and a touch of Scandinavian humor. The Air Purser is frequently the standout member of the team, ensuring a polished experience for all guests.
Long-haul flights feature Air Stewards dedicated to meal service, with a special focus on food quality and presentation. While the original requirement for culinary certification has evolved, these crew members remain passionate about gastronomy and wine, donning chef jackets for meal services to add a sense of occasion and flair.

Entertainment
Each Business Class suite features a 15.4-inch (39 cm) HD touchscreen loaded with approximately 200 films, including the latest blockbusters, Nordic favorites, international features, and a diverse library of music. While the selection of TV series is limited in multi-episode options, families benefit from a dedicated Kids’ Zone for age-appropriate content.
Passengers enjoy real-time flight tracking and, on the A350, access to a tail camera for unique views. Noise-cancelling headphones are supplied, though some frequent travelers may prefer to bring their own using a two-prong adapter for optimal sound quality.
Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is now standard for Business Class, providing reliable satellite connectivity suitable for browsing, messaging, and light streaming. Every seat is equipped with universal power outlets and USB ports for device charging.
The in-cabin reading experience is enhanced with a range of international newspapers, magazines, and the SAS inflight title Scandinavian Traveler. Digital versions can be downloaded via the SAS app starting 30 hours prior to departure.
For detailed entertainment and Wi-Fi information by route and aircraft, refer to the Businessclass flight search.

Amenities & Facilities
SAS has elevated its amenity offering with the new SAS Comfort Kit, featuring high-quality, locally sourced Swedish products, all presented in a stylish organizer designed by luxury bedding icon Dux.
Dux, established in Malmö in 1926, crafts a trio of travel accessories for SAS: a multipurpose pouch, shoe bag, and laundry bag—each thoughtfully designed for the frequent traveler.
The amenity kit includes Swedish Humble Co. toothpaste, a Dux eye mask, Swedsafe earplugs, socks made from recycled materials by Swedish Stocking, and skincare essentials from Stockholm-based Verso.
Kits are available in sleek grey or vibrant orange, with coordinating eye masks and bold branding from both SAS and Dux.
Hot towels are distributed after takeoff and before the second meal. Slippers are standard on Asian routes and may be requested on other long-haul flights, though not universally provided.

Short & Medium Haul
Since phasing out European Business Class in 2013, SAS’s short-haul strategy focuses on two cabins: SAS Go (Economy) and SAS Plus (Premium Economy). Business Class passengers on connecting flights typically continue in SAS Plus, which mirrors the ground experience of Business Class with priority services, complimentary drinks and snacks or cold meals, and free Wi-Fi. However, the onboard seating is identical to Economy, with no blocked middle seats or distinct cabin divider.
SAS continues to expand its short-haul network, with 20 new Mediterranean destinations added to the summer schedule from Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm. The carrier has also introduced a new direct route from Copenhagen to Newquay, England, enhancing connectivity for leisure travelers.

Sustainability
SAS is at the forefront of sustainable aviation, integrating eco-conscious practices throughout its business. Initiatives include green taxiing, increased use of biofuels, dry aircraft washing, and ongoing investment in next-generation technology to lower emissions. SAS collaborates with Airbus on electric aircraft development, underscoring its commitment to a carbon-neutral future.
Travelers encounter sustainability in every detail, from local sourcing and recyclable packaging to a robust recycling program. The airline has eliminated duty-free sales to reduce onboard weight and fuel consumption. SAS now offers Biofuel ticket options for domestic, intra-Scandinavian, and European flights, with Go Smart Bio and Plus Pro Bio fares including up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel. For EuroBonus members, SAS automatically offsets the carbon emissions of all flights at no additional cost, resulting in over 40% of the airline’s total CO2 output now being offset through the program.
The Businessclass flight search displays CO2 emissions for every flight, and our proprietary scoring algorithm favors the most efficient, modern aircraft.
