Qantas has introduced a groundbreaking inflight dining program for its direct Boeing 787 Dreamliner journeys between Perth and London, crafted in partnership with leading scientists to enhance passenger wellbeing and minimize jet lag.
Travelers on Qantas’ renowned 17-hour non-stop service can now select from a thoughtfully curated menu, shaped by the latest research from the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre and the culinary expertise of both Qantas and the acclaimed Rockpool team.
Neil Perry, Qantas’ Creative Director of Food, Beverage & Service, shared, “Collaborating with sleep medicine experts, nutritionists, and metabolic researchers, we have created innovative dishes featuring ingredients that support hydration, promote restful sleep, and help passengers adjust to new time zones.”
This wellness-driven menu is available exclusively on Qantas’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights connecting Perth and London. Highlights include probiotic-rich Botanica cold-pressed juice shots, signature herbal infusions, and organic kombucha designed to support digestive health and hydration at altitude.
Certain dishes are intentionally composed with hydration-boosting ingredients such as cucumber, leafy greens, strawberries, and celery, while select items—like spicy dishes with chili—are timed to align with optimal circadian rhythms. Prior to rest periods, the cabin team offers a comforting hot chocolate beverage, blending warm milk and chocolate with tryptophan to naturally encourage sleep onset.
For those seeking familiar tastes, the inflight menu also features classic options including roast English beef accompanied by Yorkshire pudding, fresh peas, and a rich onion gravy.
Professor Stephen Simpson, a key scientific collaborator on the project, noted that the ongoing research will continue with feedback from Frequent Flyers, utilizing wearable tech and digital tools to monitor sleep quality, mood, eating habits, and hydration before, during, and after these ultra-long-haul flights.
