Singapore introduces cruises to nowhere

As the travel industry continues to innovate in 2025, Singapore has emerged as a leader with its exclusive 'cruises to nowhere,' offering a seamless luxury escape for those seeking adventure without crossing borders. These unique voyages allow discerning travelers to indulge in five-star amenities while remaining within Singaporean waters—a trend that has rapidly gained traction among residents craving a curated getaway.

Previously, we explored Singapore Airlines’ acclaimed A380 dining experiences, Thai Airways’ immersive pop-up restaurants, and the rise of scenic flights departing and returning to their origin. Now, Singapore’s National Tourist Office has partnered with Genting Cruise Line’s World Dream and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas to deliver a maritime alternative that's both safe and sophisticated.

Demand for these limited-edition cruises has been extraordinary. Genting Cruise Lines reported more than 6,000 reservations within a week of opening bookings, while Royal Caribbean’s initial sailings reached full capacity almost instantly—underscoring the strong appetite for premium, close-to-home leisure experiences.

These sailings are designed with meticulous attention to health and exclusivity. In accordance with Singapore Tourism Board regulations, voyages feature no intermediate stops and operate at a capped 50% occupancy. Only Singapore residents are eligible to book, ensuring a controlled, intimate environment onboard.

Stringent health protocols are enforced: every guest must present a negative COVID-19 test prior to embarkation. Mask usage remains mandatory in all shared spaces except during dining or select sporting activities, reflecting the highest international safety standards.

Onboard, guests enjoy a remarkable array of gourmet dining venues and world-class entertainment. Signature attractions include expansive rock climbing walls and a waterpark boasting six exhilarating slides—each detail curated for a memorable, family-friendly escape.

The journey begins and ends in Singapore, tracing a scenic route along the Straits of Malacca. Guests may select from two- or three-night itineraries, with fares starting at approximately S$359 per person. Initially, 23 voyages were scheduled, with the inaugural cruise setting sail in November. As of 2025, these cruises continue to set the benchmark for safe, high-end travel in Southeast Asia.
